Coconut tree is considered as the tree of life. According to Kadazan folktales, when KINOINGAN sacrifices HUMINUNDUN to save mankind, He planted all the parts of her body, the flesh became rice, the head grew to be coconut, etc.
One of the product from coconut tree is the bahal which is sweet if not fermented. It is called Neera in Sri Lanka.
